Comments Not in the Greek meaning 'men's quarters', but 'passage way': Vitr. 6.7.5 inter duo autem peritylia et hospitalia itinera sunt quae mesauloe dicuntur, quod inter duas aulas media sunt interposita, nostri autem eas andronas appellant. … Graeci … andronas appellant oecos, ubi convivia virilia solent esse. The addition of 'nostri' by Vitruvius may mean that this should be counted as a loanword.
